An evening that will stay in our hearts for a long time, the 1850 Recreation Party in Caldera was truly a night to remember. The vibrant energy of the community came together to celebrate our cultural heritage and share a common love for the history of our beloved Caldera.

Living History

This cultural party recreates with great detail and affection the first journey of the locomotive "La Copiapó." An important historical event that put our region on the map and brought about a flourishing of progress and development. This year's gala, organized by the Illustrious Municipality of Caldera, demonstrated the commitment and passion of our community in evoking the life and times of 1850 with impressive authenticity.

A Unique Experience

The elegant event hallwas filled with laughter, lively conversations, and the soft chords of ancient music. The period costumes with their old-world splendor added a touch of charm and realism to the party. It was a night where the past came to life in all its aspects: from music and dance to costumes and gastronomy.

The Protagonists of the Night

Two of our citizens, Rebeca and Felipe, stood out from the crowd with their meticulously designed period costumes. They perfectly captured the essence of the era, bringing an extra touch of authenticity and romance to the celebration.

The Community Unites

The success of the Recreation Party is a testament to the dedication and sacrifice that each member of the community contributes to its preparation. Throughout the year, they dedicate themselves to the task of making their costumes, faithfully recreating the fashions of yesteryear.

Until Next Year

We are incredibly grateful for the attention and coverage our celebration has received. Every year, the Recreation Party grows in magnitude and popularity, attracting visitors not only from our Atacama region but from all over Chile and beyond. To everyone who attended and participated in our gala, we want to express our sincere gratitude. Together, we made this night an unforgettable journey through time. We are already excited and eager to begin preparations for the next Recreation Party. Until next year! 💫 #HistoricalGala #1850 #HistoricalRecreation #UnforgettableNight

History of Bahía Inglesa and Caldera

Bahía Inglesa

Bahía Inglesa is home to one of the most important fossil sites in Chile, with numerous remains of marine vertebrates. The age of these fossils is estimated between 16 million years and 1.7 million years, corresponding to the geological epochs of the Miocene and Pliocene. Among the most important fossils found at the site is a specimen of Pelagornis chilensis, a marine bird with a wingspan of more than five meters.

Caldera

Caldera was officially recognized as a port of great national importance in 1850, thanks to the need for an embarkation port for mineral production from the Chañarcillo and Tres Puntas mines. This led to the construction of the first Chilean railway by the Copiapó Railway Company. The following year, the first trip of the Caldera-Copiapó Railway began, which not only transported minerals, but also began a constant traffic of passengers between Caldera and Copiapó, boosting Caldera as a city with all the advances of the time.
